This manuscript contains Nicolas Trevet's Expositio in quinque Boetii libros de consolatione Philosophiae, including the Latin text of Boethius, De consolatione Philosophiae (source). The text is related to the same textual translation branch as BNF Latin 6404 (source). The manuscript belonged to the Duke of Berry, as indicated by the ex libris on f. 250 (source). It was part of the donation made by Jean de Berry to the Sainte-Chapelle de Bourges by letters patent of 1404 and was handed over at the dedication on April 18th, 1405 (source). This is known as it is found on the list of books given or promised at Sainte-Chapelle de Bourges from 1404 (source). At this time, the manuscript was covered in vermilion velvet and had two clasps of gilt-copper (source).
The decoration in this manuscript was executed around 1400 by the Master of Orosius (named after BNF Fr. 301) (source). In some places, pages have been mutilated in order to remove the illustrations.
