Decameron (Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal, Ms-5070 réserve)

Illustration of the Fifth Tale of the First Day, f. 25v.
The Marchioness of Montferrat and the King of France.

Colloquial name(s): Decameron
Official name(s): Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal, Ms-5070 réserve

Date: 15th Century (source), c. 1430-40 (source)
Origin: Paris, France (source)

This manuscript consists of Boccaccio's Decameron, which was translated by Laurent de Permierfait in 1413 or 1414 (source and source). The manuscript was copied by Guillebert de Mets c. 1430-4 - he left his name on folio Dv (source and source).

The illustrations were made by Flemish artists, as there are indications of the subjects of the miniatures explained in Flemish at the bottom of ff. 116r, 120r, 128r and 132v (source). It has been suggested that the illustrations were carried out between c. 1430 and c. 1450 by the workshops of the Master of Guillebert de Mets and the Master of Mansel (source).
