Facta et Dicta Memorabilia (BNF Fr. 9749)

Marriage, f. 76v.

Colloquial name(s): Facta et Dicta Memorabilia (Memorable Facts and Deeds)
Official name(s): Bibliothèque nationale de France Français 9749

Date: 1400-1500 (source) or 1364-1373 (see below).
Origin: France (source)

This manuscript is a copy of Valerius Maximus' Facta et Dicta Memorabilia, translated into French by Simon de Hesdin (source). It is a dedication copy for Charles V, King of France (r. 1364-1380) (source), as indicated by the pair of lions that supported a shield, now erased, on f. 1r (source). There is a record of the manuscript in two inventories of Charles V's library in the Louvre, established in 1373 and proofed in 1380 by Jean Blanchet (source). This suggests that the manuscript is in fact dated to 1364-1373.

A large portion of the manuscript images are executed in grisaille.

A list of the folios containing illustrations will be added here in due course.
