Psalter (BL Royal MS I D X)

The Nativity, f. 1v.

Colloquial name(s): Psalter
Official name(s): British Library Royal MS 1 D X

Date: c. 1200-20 (source)
Origin: Oxford, central England (source)

Online facsimile available via: British Library Digitised Manuscripts

This psalter was made for use in Oxford, as indicated by the fact that its calendar and litany include three entries for Frideswide, the patron saint of Oxford, at f. 9v, 13v and 138r (source). It was probably also produced in Oxford (source). The psalter was probably written before 1220 as the calendar does not include the Translation of Thomas of Canterbury, which was established in 1220 (source).

Basic descriptions of the illustrations are provided by the British Library with the facsimile.
