This manuscript is believed to be the oldest illustrated manuscript of the work of Guillaume de Machaut (source). It contains several different parts (source):
  • ff. 1r-22v: two poems entitled Jugement du roi du Bohème and Jugement du roi de Behaigne
  • ff. 23r-58v: Remède de Fortune
  • ff. 59r-92v: Dit de l'Alérion
  • ff. 93r-102v: Dit du Verger
  • ff. 103r-120v: Dit du Lion
  • ff. 120v-148v: Louange des Dames
  • ff. 148v-225r: Lais, motets, ballades, rondeaux et virelais
The manuscript itself is illustrated with 104 miniatures in frames, all of which are in grisaille, a technique used in in French manuscripts from the first half of the 14th C whereby the artwork is purposely rendered in shades of grey (source). There are also watermarked initials in gold, blue and red (source). According to F. April, the miniatures were made by three artists: the master of the Remède de Fortune (ff. 23r-58v) and two employees (one illustrating ff. 1r-22 and 103r-120v, the other illustrating ff. 59r-102v and 121r-196v) (source). The latter employee could be the Master of the Coronation Book of Charles V (source). Study of the iconography indicates that Guillaume de Machaut was involved in its production (source).

A list of the folios containing illustrations will be added here in due course.
