Speculum Humanae Salvationis (Mirror of Human Salvation) was a bestselling popular theology book, written some time between 1309 and 1324 (source). Several hundred copies still survive. 

This example contains multiple biblical illustrations in a distinctive bright, clear, uncluttered artistic style.
