Apocalypse (BL Add. MS 17333)

Hellbeasts, f. 43r.
Colloquial name(s): Apocalypse (Revelation) with commentary by Berengaudus
Official name(s): British Library, Additional MS 17333

Date: c. 1320-30 (source)
Origin: Normandy, France (source)

Online facsimile available via: British Library Digital Manuscripts

This manuscript is connected stylistically with a group of Apocalypse manuscripts created in Normandy around 1320-30 (source):
  • The Apocalypse of Saint-Victor (BNF Latin 14410)
  • The Cloisters Apocalypse (Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cloisters Collection, MS 68.174)
  • Namur, Grand Seminaire, MS 77
All four of these manuscripts are related to the Pontifical of Guillaume de Thiéville (BNF Latin 973) (source).

The upper halves of some of the folios of this manuscript (which contained the illustrations) have been removed (source). Of these, f. 44r has been misbound - it should follow f. 45r as it contains the French text corresponding to the Latin on f. 45v (source).
