These manuscripts contain the French version of Vincent de Beauvais' Speculum Historiale, as translated by Jean de Vignay (sourcesourcesourcesourcesource & source). They are thought to have been part of the collections of Jean de Berry, having "undoubtedly" previously belonged to the royal library at the Louvre (sourcesourcesourcesourcesource & source). They are mentioned in the inventory of the Duke de Berry in 1413 (sourcesourcesourcesourcesource & source).

Basic descriptions of the illustrations are provided by the BNF with the facsimiles.
